It's almost here

We are one week away. Bob Greene, director of Serra's alumni affairs, has stated that the Class of 1960 has responded in a very big way as its 50th reunion beckons on Oct. 22-23. According to Greene, the class will have at least 60 alums in attendance at their banquet in Burlingame. As he put it, "You guys are on fire." Well, maybe not on fire, but certainly sizzling, in a manner of speaking. That total, by the way, does include spouses, partners, significant others, etc. This should be a good one. See you all there.

It's now six months away

Yep, that's right. The Serra Class of 1960 reunion is just six short months away, on the weekend of Oct. 22-24. The reunion committee again met at Harry's Hofbrau in Redwood City today and shared information on missing alums. We intend to provide as much contact info as we can to Bob Greene in the Serra alumni office so that he and his people can get the word out. They are especially interested in determining how many rooms to reserve at the hotel where the Oct. 23 banquet will be held. Bob can be reached at bgreene@serrahs.com. The night before, Oct. 22, our class will be honored during a Serra football game. That same Friday morning at 9 a.m., Red Moroney has reserved space for six foursomes at the Peninsula Golf @ Country Club, located just a few blocks west of the Serra campus. For a spot in one of those groups, you can contact Red at carlmoroney@yahoo.com. For more information, John Horgan can be e-mailed at jhorg@hotmail.com.

Where are those missing alums?

The Serra 50th reunion committee continues to track down classmates who, for one reason or another, remain elusive. The job has been made considerably easier through the use of the Internet, a technological breakthrough undreamed-of during the 1950s. The committee _ Gene Mellor, Steve Difu, Pete Cocconi, John Turner, Red Moroney, Terry Griffin, George Fulvio, Mich Calegari, Rene White, Bert Figone, Pat Battaglia, John Horgan and a cast of thousands, well, at least a handful on a good day _ met again on Jan. 7 at Harry's Hofbrau near Five Points in Redwood City and shared notes, recommendations and opinions. Some of the outcomes included these determinations regarding the reunion (set for the weekend of Oct. 22-24): Spouses/partners will be welcome but not required; hotel/dinner reservations will be handled by Serra's alumni office (Bob Greene is the boss there); eventual donations, whether to the late Jim McGinnis' life work, Serra itself or anything else, will be entirely voluntary; a golf outing remains to be set up; another committee gathering will be held early in May. Stay in touch. You can contact John Horgan at jhorg@hotmail.com. Again, e-mail is the preferred method of communication.
