The date has been established

The Serra Class of 1960 will celebrate its 50th reunion on the weekend of Oct. 22-24 in 2010. The main event, a banquet, will be held at the Hilton SFO Hotel on the Burlingame bayfront on Saturday, Oct. 23. The night before, the class members will be honored during a Serra football game vs. St. Ignatius in San Mateo. The reunion committee is examining other possible events (a golf outing, informal barbeque, etc.) that weekend as well. A primary mission of the committee right now is a diligent search for so-called "lost" alumni. They aren't really lost, per se. It's just that we don't know where they are, at least for now. But progress has been excellent. Every day, we turn up (bad choice of words) more of our former colleagues. Sadly, at least 25 of our classmates are no longer living. The latest to pass was Jim McGinnis. His life's work, the Institute for Peace and Justice in St. Louis, will be one of the beneficiaries of the reunion event next year. Jim's widow has been notified of the decision. But more on that later. Once again, please don't hesitate to contact John Horgan at jhorg@hotmail.com for updates. Communication via e-mail is, by far, the preferred mode of contact.

It's one year away

The 50th reunion of Serra High School's Class of 1960 is one year away. The Class of 1959 celebrated its half-century observation Saturday night at a Burlingame hotel. The turnout was terrific. There were a lot of memories in that room. A committee from the Class of 1960 is currently planning much the same thing. The event will be held during Serra's homecoming weekend in October of 2010. As you can imagine, we are seeking members of our class to keep them informed about what's coming up. You can contact the committee and John Horgan by e-mail at johnhorganmedia@gmail.com or via this blog. There is also a Facebook account under John Horgan's name. By all means, let us know you are out there and interested in next year's reunion.
